| ABOUT THE OWNER |
Mary Salaber is a 4th generation northern Californian. She lives with her
husband and four children in Dixon, a small farming community near Sacramento.
Her shop, Glorie – Antiques, Home and Garden is a stopping point for those
living and traveling between the San Francisco Bay Area and Lake Tahoe.
Mary grew up admiring the holiday customs of two grandmothers. One who took a
naturalistic Victorian approach to the seasons, the other who loved color and
sparkle. Both were collectors of antiques and fine things. This is where Mary
came from - nature’s beauty with a little sparkle!
With a degree in fashion design and extensive experience in specialty retail,
she was certain that her creative ways would someday provide a living. When she
moved to Dixon she began scouting for a suitable storefront, which is where
“Glorie” is located today. The shop specializes in garden inspired antiques and
Victorian cottage furnishings.
Expansion of her business came in 2004 after taking a few hand made pieces to
the San Francisco Gift Show. When stores began ordering, and then reordering,
she knew that she was on her way!

| A WORD FROM THE OWNER, MARY SALABER |
"For as long as I can remember, I have loved and collected Victorian Christmas
decorations. When I opened "Glorie" I could never find exactly what I wanted in
holiday décor. So I gathered supplies and made the pieces I could not find.
Soon, I found that other shops began to by them. A new business was born.
The simpler, more-aged, the better! Especially treasured are pieces from the
late 19th century. The use of "real" materials – paper, glass, wire – and the
handcraftsmanship inspires me. My pieces are molded of paper-mache, then hand
painted and encrusted in crushed glass "glimmer". Some pieces are cast from
antique chocolate molds – fishes, shoes, birds’ nests. Bits of paper, wire and
tinsel are used to finish, but not to excess. I want each piece to shine of
itself.
Enjoy these treasures from the past. The more technological we become the more
difficult it becomes to produce high-quality, handmade goods…These are almost a
lost art."
